PH | Between 2025 and 2026, the PH Navy will receive two new corvettes | MANILA – An source said on Wednesday that the Philippine Navy (PN) will get two brand-new missile corvettes between 2025 and 2026.
“We have a lot of barking dogs. We will get two brand-new Corvettes between 2025 and 2026. This is going to South Korea. We have a lot of military ships coming, that’s for sure. We will get two brand-new corvettes from [South] Korea in 2025 and 2026. In an interview with DZBB, PN Vice Commander Rear Adm. Caesar Bernard Valencia said, “Both of these ships are brand new.”
Valencia said that the two missile frigates in service, the BRP Jose Rizal and the BRP Antonio Luna, will be backed up by these two brand-new corvettes.
He was talking about the Department of National Defence (DND) programme to buy corvettes, which was officially given to the South Korean shipbuilding company Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) on December 28, 2021.
These corvettes are worth PHP28 billion and are made to be able to fight against other ships, submarines, and planes.
Valencia also said that the PN would start getting six brand-new offshore patrol boats (OPVs) from 2026 to 2028. These OPVs would cost PHP30 billion and were given to HHI on June 28, 2022.
