PH | Escudero tells young people to use current technology to do well in the global arena | MANILA – Sen. Francis Escudero said on Wednesday that young people today have no reason not to do well in whatever field they choose and be competitive on the world stage, since they now know how powerful modern technology is.
Escudero said at the Ignite: GCash Innovation Summit 2023 that young Filipinos can get all the data or information they need with just a click of a keyboard. This makes them more competitive in the global field and makes the country a better place for all Filipinos.
“When you use the Internet right away, you learn so much that we never knew before,” Escudero said at the event, which was held at the Globe Tower in Taguig City.
He said that the people of this age have no reason not to do better than people in the past.
Escudero talked about how hard it was to connect and talk when he was younger, before the “Public Telecommunications Policy Act of the Philippines” was passed in March 1995 and “deregulated” the telecommunications business.
“Things change in an instant. Changes happen quickly, and we have to keep up with them. Escudero said, “With modern technology, you can compete with anyone.”
He said that people in his time got all of their information from encyclopaedias, while people today can use the internet to look for something.
When a worker asked Escudero what the government could do to help Filipinos get more digital services, Escudero said, “The government should just let the private sector be.” Let the painters paint, the thinkers come up with new ideas, and the inventors come up with new things.
Escudero said that the government is “very slow when it comes to regulating new technology.”
“This is why FinTech companies like GCash need to be left alone to come up with new ideas, with less or no help from the government,” he said.
“The more the government lets the private sector do things they want to do at a price they can pay, the more the private sector should be able to do those things. “Letting IT, innovation, and modern technology happen on their own would be the best thing we could do for them,” he said.(via PNA)
